Ah, the allure of historic Europe! Get ready to be whisked away with Sandy and Nan, the dynamic duo, known to many as the 2funtravelers, as they share their adventures from their most recent 100-day odyssey through the heart of western Europe. Global travelers extraordinaire, having visited 21 countries, 47 states and sailed 20 times, Sandy and Nan will whisk you away, traveling thru the beautiful countries of Spain, France and England, on planes, trains, automobiles and even London's exhilarating Uber boats.
Stumble upon hidden gems, and expect breathtaking landscapes, captivating history, and a healthy dose of unexpected adventure; making new friends along the way! Savor local delicacies, take cooking classes and learn some great recipes to try at home. Aspen, Colorado was once home to Sandy and Nan's high-end cake business, where they cultivated a reputation for exquisite cakes and desserts, so they are always on the lookout for local cakes and desserts, and new recipes!
Get ready to visit Madrid, one of the greenest cities in the world, surrounded by mountains and natural parks, where the large ornate palaces and over 50 famous museums will take your breath away. Imagine the sun-drenched boulevards of Barcelona, where Gaudi’s whimsical architecture dances under a sapphire sky. Picture yourself strolling along the glamorous La Croisette in Cannes, the gentle Mediterranean breeze whispering secrets of film stars past and present.
Envision the vibrant hues of Nice, a painter’s palette come to life on the French Riviera. In Monaco, witness the changing of the guard at the Royal Palace and view the finish line of the famous Monaco Grand Prix, where the cars navigate through the narrow streets at daredevil speeds. And, who can forget the opulent sparkle of Monte Carlo Casino, where the high stakes and high style intertwine, and James Bond once played his hand.
But the journey doesn’t end there. You will delve into the rich tapestry of beautiful France. In Bordeaux, where the world’s finest wines are born, and the mulled wines are a welcomed winter tradition. With stops in Avignon, St. Remy de Provence, Eze, Mougins, Antibes and the town of Grasse, where the original Fragonard perfume factory sits high atop the hill, to the bustling and lovely port city of Marseille, a rich melting pot of cultures and amazing flavors.
Take a short flight across the English Channel to the timeless charm of England. Wander the historic streets of London, soaking in centuries of stories etched in the cobblestones and visit some of the most popular sites. Travel with Sandy and Nan around London, and visit the beautiful Christmas markets at Covent Gardens and the Queen’s Walk. Play sailor for a day and climb around the Cutty Sark, the famous clipper ship in Greenwich, and enjoy a delicious spread, while sipping Earl Grey during high-tea, served below deck. For the best view of London's iconic sites, you'll soar in the elevator to the 72nd floor at the Shard, one of Europe's tallest buildings.
And our next adventure occurs in the rugged beauty of Cornwall, with its dramatic coastline and tales of smugglers and seafaring adventures. The famous PBS series, “Doc Martin,” and “Poldark,” or as Sandy aptly called the show, "Tall, Dark and Handsome," a series based on real life, in the late 1700s. Both hit series were filmed in, and around Cornwall. Step back in time, as you retrace Doc Martin's steps thru Port Isaac, and walk the harbor of Charlestown, where the harbor scenes in Poldark were filmed. Feel as though you were whisked back in time, as you walk through the centuries- old villages and brave the stunning cliffs, rising from the sea.
And finally, the internationally know Eden Project, that many call the eighth wonder of the world, and attracts millions of visitors to Cornwall every year. It's similar to a Noah's Ark venture, for the preservation of all plant species, instead of animals. Boasting two large biomes; the Rainforest Biome, which is the largest indoor rainforest in the world and the Mediterranean Biome that features thousands of exotic plants, trees and unique flowers. The trails and extensive outdoor gardens are filled with every color flower one can possibly imagine, and the restaurants offer a variety of authentic Cornish food.
This 100-day adventure with Sandy and Nan is truly not a vacation; it's an exploration, a chance to explore and connect with the world, and an inspiring testament to the spirit of adventure that shines through in each and every post from the 2funtravelers! So, buckle up and prepare to hear the tales, soak up the history, discover the quaint markets, taste the regional food and drink, and last but not least, sample all the scrumptious desserts! So, grab your bag and a fork, and let's go!
